Nick Mannion spent 30 years working in housing and regeneration, at the regional and national level. before moving to teach in the further education sector. He was elected to Cheshire East Council in 2015 as Labour Councillor for Macclesfield West and Ivy ward. 

From May 2019, Nick was a member of the Cabinet of Cheshire East Council and held the portfolio for the environment and regeneration. He led on the council’s commitment to become carbon neutral, and also sat on various boards in his councillor role including the council’s Northern Planning Committee, as well as the Crewe Town Board. He is a Cheshire East Council representative on outside bodies, including the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Authority. 

On the move to a committee governance system in 2021, he became chair of the council’s Economy and Growth Committee, and then its Finance Sub-Committee. 

In July 2024, he was elected Leader of Cheshire East Council.
