Born and raised in Warrington’s Fairfield and Howley ward, Jean Flaherty has been deeply involved in community work for many years. She was elected as a councillor for her home ward in 2016.
Jean has chaired the council’s ‘Building Stronger Communities’ committee and played a key role in shaping a regeneration masterplan for central Warrington. Alongside her council work, she has remained active in community initiatives, including establishing local support networks.
Her recent work has focused on community development, environmental initiatives, and communication. She was instrumental in revitalizing the Pavilion Tea Rooms in St. Elphin’s Park and has been a strong supporter of The Litter Network’s CLEAN initiatives.
In 2024, Jean was appointed Deputy Leader of the council and Cabinet Member for Children, Families, and Education. In this role, she leads on key issues including education, skills development, safeguarding, fostering and adoption, social care, and child poverty reduction.
