Michael Gorman has spent most of his life living and working in Cheshire. With a background in the print and media industries he was laterally employed as a senior university academic. He is a strong advocate for the third sector and has been a board member/trustee of several charities, including the Prince’s Trust North West, and was also Chair of Fairbridge in Greater Manchester, a national charity which worked with young inner-city adults to get them into jobs and training. Michael is currently Vice Chair of Irish Community Care Manchester.

 

Michael was elected to Cheshire East Council in 2023 as an independent councillor for Wilmslow West and Chorley Ward. He was Vice Chair of the council’s Finance Sub-Committee and a trustee of the Cheshire Pension Fund.

He was elected as the Deputy Leader of the Council in February 2024 and became Leader of the Independent Group which, together with the Labour Group, is currently in joint overall control of the council. Michael is a member of the Strategic Planning Board and also chairs the Economy and Growth Committee. He continues as a trustee of the Cheshire Pension Fund and is also a Director of Alderley Park Limited.
