Councillor Karen Shore was first elected to Cheshire West and Chester Council to serve Whitby Ward in 2015. A year later, she became the Cabinet member for Environment, which included Highways. Following boundary changes in 2019, she was elected to serve Central & Grange Ward and was named Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Highways. Cllr Shore has been Deputy Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council for six years.
In addition to her responsibilities as Deputy Leader – deputising for the Leader and supporting Cabinet – Cllr Shore continues to be the Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Highways. She also continues to be a member of the Rail North Committee; a substitute member of the LGAs Local Infrastructure and Net Zero Board and a substitute member of Transport for the North, in addition to regional and subregional roles as a member of the Cheshire and Mid-Mersey Strategic Flood Partnership and an elected regional representative on the NW Regional Flooding and Coastal Committee.
Cllr Shore was appointed to the Joint Committee, where she has played a supporting role in advancing devolution efforts, helping to shape and drive forward policies that bring greater decision-making powers and resources to the region and she is the lead member for Health, Inclusion, Skills and Employment.
In her role as Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Shore has led on many areas of the Council’s work on environmental policy and in Waste services, overseeing the setting up of the first wholly owned Council company with cooperative values: CWR and overseen complete reorganisation in Highways and Transport, including the letting of anew Term Maintenance Contract, with the ambition of driving up the standard and quality of repairs, improving the customer experience and improving connectivity in the Borough.
Cllr Shore has a professional background in Education, working as a Teacher and Educator in schools and in the charity sector, both in secondary, post-16 and adult education. She is passionate about employment and skills and believes in lifelong learning and the value of education and training in improving life chances and supporting economic growth. She is delighted to be returning to her routes, in being the lead member for Health, Inclusion, Education and Skills for Cheshire and Warrington.
